Bio

Stevon Orlando was born in 1955 in Australia and grew up in Sydney. His parents came to Australia from Malta as youngsters and after a romantic courtship they married and raised a family of four children in Sydney’s western suburbs. Stevon, the eldest, was a very artistic and musical teenager and these interests have remained with him all his life. After completing school, he studied art education at Sydney’s College of Fine Arts where his days were filled with the creative opportunities and distractions that Sydney and its art community offered in the late 70s.

During the early 80s Stevon worked as an art teacher and maintained a passionate commitment to painting and networking with the vibrant art community of Sydney and the Blue Mountains. He had three solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions before deciding it was time to leave Australia and see what influence and opportunities Europe could offer.

It wasn’t long before he made a few contacts in the Netherlands through the University of Eindhoven and became immersed in the new age philosophies that were being born at that time. He had his first international exhibition called “Future Works” in Eindhoven in 1981 and the ideas and messages of that show became the basis of his artistic style and themes which continue to this day. During that time, he took up several artist-in-residence opportunities in France and Malta where he continued to develop his painting style, academic interests and passion for teaching art.

Returning to Australia in the mid 80s, Stevon established a studio at Lithgow in country NSW for many years then eventually returned to Sydney and settled in Dural in Sydney’s semi-rural north west.

After marrying the love of his life and raising two beautiful daughters, Stevon maintained a deep passion for learning, teaching and making art. While he became less interested in exhibiting his paintings he became increasingly immersed in learning about and expressing highly personal esoteric and metaphysical themes in his painting. He completed a Masters degree in the 2003 which was a philosophical study in subjectivity and post-structuralist philosophy. This investigation heavily influenced the new subjects that Stevon was exploring in his painting and gave him a basis for writing about his artistic expressions and ideas.

Over the last decade Stevon has been creating art objects which are heavily influenced by positive psychology, art therapy and eastern philosophy. He maintains a steady output of painting and writing and is becoming increasing engaged in portraiture. From his studio overlooking the Tuggerah Lake on the Central Coast of NSW, Stevon continues to offer personalised artworks that have been purposefully designed to arouse and inspire positive associations and emotional wellbeing in those who view and commission his work.
