For Kate

When I first met Kate I immediately sensed a familiarity and to some degree, a sense of common purpose. It was a comforting feeling and I wanted to make a painting for her which enabled me to share my thoughts and ideas about that common purpose. This painting is about feelings of optimism and trust and the importance of these emotions being expressed in her work. When Kate looks at this painting and reflects on the conversation we had about it, I would like for her to recognise that she is not bound or shackled by her gifts but that she is actually liberated as a result of the positive emotions people are giving to her.
