Now and Then
Coloured pencil on paper, 600x600mm
Have terms such as “positivity” and “growth mindset” created expectations that we can only flourish after we make changes to the way we live our lives? Sometimes I just don’t want to change very much. In my own private mental landscape, I’m quite comfortable with the way I am. Well, at least for now. But “now” soon becomes yesterday and changes into “then”. And so my lifetime becomes an account of my familiar “then” moments. Perhaps the messages behind positivity and growth mindset are not at all about changing and developing, perhaps they are very much about how I think and act “now”. This drawing is an expression of these thoughts and is titled “Now and Then”.
